The post office called at 5:30 this morning to tell us the chicks had arrived! I went in to get them so the girls could see them before school started. What a morning!
The girls figure there are 27 chicks total - 2 cooper black marans, 1 barred rock, 7 rhode island reds, 3 white rocks, 4 buff orpingtons, & 7 black sex links. Give or take a chick because they're so darned small & fast! Also, we're just making educated guesses as to what kinds of birds were in our assortment. (We get a surprisingly good deal if we just let the hatchery decide what to send us!)
These chicks hatched out in Springfield, Missouri on Wednesday and found their way all the way up to Lawrence in less than 48 hours! That's a lot for little birds. They were thristy & hungry & cold & tired but we got them all fixed up and still made it to school ontime.
These babies will be laying eggs by fall. We're going to have such a fun time this summer!
